Why Am I Not Healed? I Believe in Healing

Weeks 4-6 – Scriptural Reasons People Aren’t Healed

The reason a person doesn’t receive their healing is mostly likely something simple. It isn’t some mysterious hidden purpose of God. If a person is not living in the provision of God, there is a reason, and He will always reveal it (James 1:5-8).

The person may have been taught untruths about healing, and religious traditions are hard to get rid of. There are many false doctrines (traditions of man, deceiving spirits, and doctrines of demons) built into the fabric of “sound doctrine” to justify those who aren’t healed.

They may have heard healing truths and believe them, but something in their heart isn’t fully persuaded that healing is for them. Or maybe they don’t feel worthy to receive it.

Our inner belief systems are not always the same as our outer beliefs. If there is even the slightest doubt concerning the will of God, it will block you from receiving the healing that is provided for us all.

Some have had prayer many times or seen others prayed for without results that they have given up in their hope. Receiving healing is no longer expected in many churches. They pray for the sick hoping it might happen. But, of course, it rarely does. Healing has become a doctrine rather than a reality.

There is a difference between knowing the Word and living the Word. You can know and accept the truths of the Bible with your mind with your heart not fully agreeing. You can teel what you really believe by your actions and by your words.

There is a difference between deciding to believe the Word and actually believing from the heart. There is a difference between believing healing as a doctrine and believing it to the degree that enjoy its benefits.

Before trying to go deeper to find some inner problem, let us start with some basics which are clearly shown in His Word.

Once we get our believing about healing and God as our healer in accord with Scripture, if we still don’t receive, then we can look deeper.

Romans 14:23 (MSG) – But if you’re not sure, if you notice that you are acting in ways inconsistent with what you say you believe, then you know that something is out of line.

Some Biblical Reasons People are not Healed?

The traditions of man can disempower the power of the Word.

Matthew 15:3, 6 – Why do you yourselves also break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? You have invalidated the Word of God for the sake of your tradition.

Extreme Predestination – The extreme teaching about the sovereignty of God and predestination, that if God wants you healed, He will heal you, and otherwise, not…

Cessationism – The teaching that miracles and healing have passed away. Most of us know this isn’t’ true, but the remains of this belief continues inside many of of us anyway.

Secularism, Humanism, Rationalism – These ideas and concepts got into church beliefs. Natural thoughts like “God’s way of healing these days is doctors” replaced the truth.”

  • Rationalism – The belief or theory that opinions and actions should be based on reason and knowledge rather than on religious belief or emotional response.
  • Secularism – As a philosophy, secularism seeks to interpret life based on principles derived solely from the material world, without recourse to religion.
  • Humanism – An outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters.

An Inaccurate Picture of God – Many of us still have the remains of an inaccurate picture of a judging God looking to find sin to punish. We may carry around a low-grade guilt and sense of falling short that can keep us from receiving our healing. We disqualify ourselves in our own mind and thus block the power and love of God.

Healing Might not be the Will of God – Much of the church world emphasizes the will of God regarding healing first and foremost. But Jesus didn’t even mention the will of God when healing. Jesus emphasized individual faith not whether healing is the will of God. If the will of God was the main determining factor in healing, Jesus would have said that instead of continually saying, your faith has made your whole. In the one case where the will of God was mentioned, Jesus said, “I will”.

Religious traditions are some of the most dangerous things keeping us from God’s will because they have usurped and replaced the Word of God. The traditions of man will make the Word of God of no effect. We must be on our watch and on guard against traditions that contradict the Word of God.

Many people hang onto their traditions so strongly that they can’t even see what the Word clearly teaches.

Matthew 13:58 – And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Mark 6:5-6 – And He could not do any miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He was amazed at their unbelief. And He was going around the villages teaching. The cure for unbelief is learning the truth.

Mark 9:23 – If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us. And Jesus said to him, If you can? All things are possible to him who believes.

Why Don’t We See More Miracles?

We have learned about healing. We have learned about miracles. But we don’t experience what we know. Why don’t we see the miracles of healing? What does the Bible say? One reason is expressed by the Apostle Paul in the book of Galatians.

Galatians 3:5 (AMP) – Then does He Who supplies you with His marvelous [Holy] Spirit and works powerfully and miraculously among you do so on [the grounds of your doing] what the Law demands, or because of your believing in and adhering to and trusting in and relying on the message that you heard?

According to this passage, it is more because we don’t believe than that we fall short in our behavior. He works miracles among us on the basis of our believing not our doing.

Romans 10:2-3 – For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

Hosea 4:6 – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

If a person doesn’t know God’s will and provision concerning healing or how He set things up for us to receive it, they will likely not receive it – except when God divinely intervenes.

Your soul isn’t prosperous in the subject of divine healing (3 John 2).

If you are not in good health, an important place to check would be your soul (thoughts, mind, emotions – what is really in your heart?

You can only walk in health to the degree your mind is renewed – to the degree you think like God.

What do you really believe concerning healing? No, I don’t mean doctrinally; I mean what do you believe to the degree that you live in it. What do you actually expect?

You may subconsciously believe lies about healing, about God, or about yourself that keep you from walking in health.

There may be hidden wounds and emotional trauma hidden in your heart. You may need to be healed in your heart before it will manifest in your body.

In the areas of healing as well as in all other areas, you are transformed by the renewing of your mind. Transformed from sickness to health, weakness to strength comes by changing your thoughts. (Romans 12:2).

Not understanding the difference between gifts of healing and the provision of healing included in our redemption – there for whosoever to take freely as part of our salvation (Sozo – saved, healed, delivered, made whole in every way).

We must distinguish between healings obtained through supernatural gifts or manifestations and those obtained by exercising faith in God’s Word alone.

Corinthians 12:9, 28-30 – God gave gifts of healings to some. All do not have gifts of healings, do they?

Mark 16:15, 17-18 – In the Great Commission we are all to go out into the world and preach the Gospel, part of which is laying hands on the sick see them recover.

God has provided healing in redemption. But He also provided gifts of healing, because He wants us healed, healthy, and whole. Jesus told us to pray that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. There is NO SICKNESS in heaven.

People want to get healed through someone else’s prayer and faith, but in many cases, God wants them to get it for themselves. Even if you get healed through someone else’s faith, you will need to keep it through your own.

Instead of learning and taking hold of healing truths, many come and expect someone else to pray for them and believe God for them. And if it doesn’t work, they blame God or the healing minister – or think that maybe it wasn’t His will or timing or something. This untruth is spread by word as well as osmosis. It steals hope for healing.

God loves us, desires us to be well and whole, and works with us however He can get us healed. But He does expect us to learn and grow and act on what He has done and revealed.

The gifts of healings were given more to work THROUGH us than FOR us.

Gifts of healings and supernatural manifestations are given to advertise the Gospel and to gain the attention of those outside the Church. Ideally, a believer should be healed by releasing his faith in the Gospel (which includes healing) – just as we receive salvation.

There is a place to ask for others to pray and agree with you, but there are many Christians who are never healed because they try to rely on someone else.

Not being a doer of the Word.

Hebrews 4:1-3 – Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. They did not enter in – although His works had been completed and prepared and waiting for all who would believe from the foundation of the world. Healing was prepared from the foundation of the world.

You need more than just hearing the word and mentally assenting you believe it. You need to work the truth down into your life till you become not only a hearer but also a doer. It is natural to be a doer of what is part of you.

We like to think we are a doer of the Word just because we heard and agree with a truth.

But you must do more than hear and agree, you must look carefully at it and thoughtfully observe it. You must continue in it. Otherwise, you will go off and promptly forget what you have heard – and yet deceive yourself to think because you know it and agree with it, you believe it and are doing it.

It doesn’t come naturally to be a doer of the word. There is more to being a doer of the Word than just hearing it. If you don’t take the time to go over a truth and feed on it till it enters your heart and becomes part of you, you won’t be a doer of it – even if you want to.

Not Diligently Seeking or Fighting for Healing

Though healing is provided for all, and by His stripes you are healed, it is not automatic.

You will need to fight the fight of faith and strip off the things that hinder you from living in all that God has provided. (1 Timothy 6:12; Hebrews 12, the example to taking the Promised Land)

Your health is based on an ongoing decision to walk in health and enforce Christ’s victory. Walking in health can require persistence and a firm stand on the Word of God and His promises.

Through faith and patience we inherit the promises. We must be more persistent than the sickness that attacks us all.

The devil (and his sickness) won’t leave if you don’t actively and consistently resist him. If you accept something, you are not resisting it.

Why do we accept sickness? We think it is normal. Continual sickness may be reality in the world, but it isn’t scriptural reality. It shouldn’t be the reality in the church. We need to turn this trend around.

Hebrews 12:1-3 – Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

V. 4 – You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin.

There is a fight and a striving in walking with the Lord, putting off the old and putting on the new, casting aside all sin and every obstacle. Not many have resisted the old things and pressed on into the new things, striving to the point of shedding blood.

Sometimes you may have to resist harder and longer than you would like. You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood. But if you resist the devil, he will flee.

Declare war on sickness and disease in your body. Develop a habit of standing against all sickness and disease as you do against sin.

Not Correctly Judging the Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 11:29-30 – But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.

A schism between members of the body of Christ can result in sickness. Therefore, believers should maintain Christ-like relations with other members of the Church. The inference is that believers at odds with each another could fail to be healed.

Also not discerning the Lord’s body that He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses could result in a Christian being sick.

Symptoms can be lies.

Many times the enemy brings a symptom to you. If you accept it as something real and treat it as real, it will become real, but if you resist it when you first feel it, it will flee and never develop into anything real at all.

I would say that 90% of symptoms that have come upon me throughout my life have been lies, and when I resisted them, they turned into nothing and just passed by. If I had accepted them as a realty and said, oh no, I am sick. I am getting this or that, they would probably have taken hold and become a sickness or ailment.

I have observed that most people who walk in health also do this.

Jonah 2:8-10 – They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

Vanity – Deceit, lie, falsehood, emptiness, without form.

Unconfessed Sin

Psalm 32:3-4 – When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my virality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer.

This is easy to fix for a Christian.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

More Observations: Why is it so difficult for many to receive healing?

I see them asking and waiting for the Lord to heal them, hoping to feel better and therefore know they are healed. If He does, they are healed, if He doesn’t, somewhere down in their beliefs they hold to the belief that maybe it wasn’t His will or His time or they didn’t do enough or aren’t worthy enough?

I don’t see too many diligently taking hold of the truth that healing belongs to us and fighting for it. Even in those who say they believe healing is the will of God, there is a sense of doubt, that for some reason it might not work.

People disqualify themselves from the blessings and provisions of God for many reasons and them blame it on the mysterious will of God. They put the idea of “mystery” above the plain and clear truths of the Word of God.

These small seeds of doubt are enough to block or hinder healing. The lack of results this brings further increases doubt and leads to even more failure in receiving healing and walking in health – till we get to the place we give up on it – in heart if not in will.

Talking of personal health and ailments is a very common area of conversation, especially and people age. I hear many continually talking about their current symptoms and using them as reasons they can’t do things.

When you continually speak of sickness and symptoms, it reveals what is really in your heart. Continually speaking of your symptoms will keep them active and present and ruling your life.

It shows you internally have more faith in sickness than in God’s healing. It shows that the symptoms are a part of who you are not just something that has attacked you.

You may want others to know what you are going through so they can agree for your healing and give you the support you need, but everybody doesn’t need to hear about it.

You won’t consistently walk in health as long as you are doing this.

There could be many other reasons people are not healed. But God knows why. Ask Him for wisdom as to what is hindering YOUR healing and EXPECT Hiim to give it, and He will.

  1. Ask the Lord to reveal to you reasons why you aren’t as healthy as you wish you were – and EXPECT Him to tell you – James 1:5-8; Jeremiah 17:9-10 (MSG).
  2. When you see an area of lack in your believing and receiving:
  3. Don’t condemn yourself. Condemnation will get you nowhere.
  4. Find scriptures that counteract the lies you are believing, write them out, and speak them to yourself to break the old patterns – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
  5. Purposely and intentionally believe what God has said. You will be transformed by changing what you think.
  6. Spend time with the Lord seeing yourself with the promises of God; visualize your life healthy.

If you will take the time to go over these things and do the activations every week, your health will begin to be transformed. If you continue to do them, you can grow to the place where health is more normal to you than sickness, weakness, and disease.
