This teaching is mostly just scripture. So take the time to look them up; meditate on them and apply them as medicine to your troubled mind. The Word only works for you when you mix faith with it. Put faith in the God who loves you and cares for you. Draw near to Him in trust and enter His rest.
Hebrews 4:9-11 – Be diligent to enter His rest.
Matthew 11:28-30 – Come to Me – I will give you rest.
Jeremiah 6:16 – Walk in His good way – you shall find rest for your souls.
The Life of Rest Is a Life of Fellowship & Trust
The life of rest is a life of fellowship with Him, of being yielded to Him, of trusting Him and keeping your cares in His hands and letting Him work it all out. It is when you have made Him your refuge and have complete confidence in Him; therefore your life is relaxed and resting upon Him.
1 Peter 5:7 – Casting all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
Isaiah 26:3 – He will guard and keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him – because he trusts in the Lord.
John 14:1, 27 – Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated)…He has given us His peace, so don’t let your heart be troubled or afraid. Stop allowing yourself to be agitated and disturbed and do not permit yourself to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.Psalm 37:1-9 – Fret not yourself, trust in the Lord and do good, delight in Him, commit your way to Him, trust also in Him, and He will do it. Cease from anger and forsake wrath, fret not yourself…
Proverbs 3:5-8 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. Fear the Lord and turn from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.
2 Chronicles 20:15-17, 20 – Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours but God’s. You shall not need to fight in this battle. Take your position, stand still and see the deliverance of the Lord who is with you. Believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established; believe and remain steadfast to His prophets and you shall prosper.
2 Chronicles 32:7-8 – Be strong and courageous. Be not afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there is Another with us greater than [all those] with him. With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people relied (rested) on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Deuteronomy 20:1-4 – When you go to battle, do not be afraid, for the Lord is with you. Let not your mind and heart faint; fear not and do not tremble or be terrified and in dread because of them. For the Lord your God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to save you.
Luke 1:79 –He came to shine upon and give light to those who sit in darkness an in the shadow of death, to direct our feet in a straight line into the way of peace. Let Him lead you. When you follow Him, He will lead you into peace.
Isaiah 48:17-18 – He leads you in the way you should go and teaches you to profit. Hearken to Him, then your peace and prosperity will be like a flowing river and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
1 Peter 3:4-6 – A restful attitude, a gentle and peaceful spirit which is not anxious or wrought up, that doesn’t give way to fears or let anxieties unnerve, is precious in the sight of the Lord.
Psalm 131:2 – Surely I have composed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child rests against his mother, my soul is like a weaned child within me.
Isaiah 57:20-21 – No peace for the wicked.
Romans 3:16-17 – Destruction and misery are in their paths, and the place of peace they have not known.
How You Live, Move and Think Determines Your Peace
Peace isn’t just something God does for you; it isn’t just a gift. Whether or not you live in peace is determined by what you think and believe and whether or not you trust God. He has given peace, but it will only benefit you if you trust Him.
Proverbs 15:15 – All of the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil (by anxious thoughts and forebodings), but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be happy (in your faith) and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always); be unceasing in prayer; thank God I everything (no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks), for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:25 – Therefore I tell you, STOP BEING PERPETUALLY UNEASY (anxious and worried) about your life…
It is up to me to obey the Word of God, to rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks in everything. It is up to me to stop being perpetually uneasy, anxious and worried. But this can only be done through trusting the Lord. See my teaching on how to cast your cares on the Lord through replacing them with trust.
Philippians 4:4, 6-8 – Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice…Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
TRUST – RELAX – REST
Isaiah 30:15 – For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, in returning (to me) and resting (in me) you shall be saved; in quietness and in (trusting) confidence shall be your strength. But you would not.
Isaiah 32:17-18 – And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness will be quietness and confident trust forever. My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, in safe dwellings and in quiet resting places.
Psalm 46:10 – Let be, cease striving, be still and now that I am God.
Isaiah 40:31 – Wait quietly in trust and confidence in His presence, and you will renew your strength.
Where is Your Trust?
Psalm 37:7 – Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself…
1 Corinthians 1:9 – God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy and therefore ever true to His promise, and he can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Psalm 46:1-2, 10 – God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (abundantly available for help); therefore I will not fear.
Cease striving, let go, let be, relax and know that I am God…
Psalm 62:1-2 – My soul waits in silence for God only; He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold. I shall not be greatly shaken.
Psalm 91:1-2, 9-10, 14-16 – He who dwells in the secret place of the Most Height shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (whose power no foe can withstand). I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I (confidently) trust… Because I have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High my dwelling place, there shall no evil befall me nor any plague or calamity come near my tent… Because I has set his love upon Him, therefore will You deliver him; You will set him on high, because I knows and understands Your name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing You will never forsake me, no, never]. I shall call upon You, and You will answer me; You will be with me in trouble, You will deliver me and honor me. With long life will You satisfy me and show him Your salvation. See more on how to live in His protection by trusting and taking refuge in Him.
Hebrews 4:10-11 – So be diligent, make every effort, to enter His rest.
All of these scriptures and good and wonderful, but they will only benefit you if you mix them with faith (V 4:2). Peace isn’t something God does FOR you; it is a gift He has given that you have to take. You have to replace your unpeaceful, fearful, anxious thoughts with trust in Him and His promises.
