Judgment is the result of disobedience to a spiritual law the same as falling off a cliff is the result of disregarding a natural law, the law of gravity. It can be done on purpose, by accident, or though ignorance – but the result is the same – you fall.
Ephesians 4:18 (Amplified) – Their moral understanding is darkened and their reasoning is beclouded. [They are] alienated (estranged, self-banished) from the life of God [with no share in it; this is] because of the ignorance (the want of knowledge and perception, the willful blindness) that is deep-seated in them, due to their hardness of heart [to the insensitiveness of their moral nature].
Romans 10:2-3 – I bear them witness that they have a [certain] zeal and enthusiasm for God, but it is not enlightened and according to [correct and vital] knowledge. For being ignorant of the righteousness that God ascribes [which makes one acceptable to Him in word, thought, and deed] and seeking to establish a righteousness (a means of salvation) of their own, they did not obey or submit themselves to God’s righteousness.
Ephesians 5:6-7 – Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.
A Christian can partake of the judgment of the world, or the wrath of God that comes upon the world. A Christian can be alienated from the life of God through ignorance. When this happens, it has nothing to do with God not loving them, not wanting good for them or of punishing them. It has to do with the results of their own beliefs, words, and actions coming upon them. It has to do with living in a way contrary to the Word of God.
Good is merciful and desires your well being on all occasions, but if you jump off a cliff, you will fall and hurt yourself. If you ignore or disregard the truths of the word you will equally partake off the results – the same as when you are ignorant of or disregard the natural law of gravity.
