Spiritual Hunger Scriptures

In the last post I began to speak on spiritual hunger. Here are some scritpures on that subject for you to feed on.

Psalm 42:1-3 – As the deer pants for streams of water, so pants my soul after you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God.  My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say to me, where is your God?

Psalm 63:1-3, 7-8 – O God, you are my God, early and earnestly will I seek you: my soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water; to see your power and your glory, so as I have seen you in the sanctuary.  You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings will I rejoice.  My soul follows hard after you; your right hand upholds me.

Isaiah 41:17-18 – The poor and needy seek water and there is none and their tongue fails for thirst.  I, the lord will answer them, I the God of Israel, will not forsake them.  I will open rivers on the bare heights and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry land springs of water.

Psalm 143:6 – I spread forth my hands unto you; my soul thirsts after you, as a weary land.  Make haste to answer me, O Lord; my spirit fails: hide not your face from me…

Isaiah 26:9 – With my soul have I desired you in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek you earnestly…

Look at these descriptions of hungering and thirsting for God in these scriptures: I seek the Lord like panting for water, tears have been my meat day and night, earnest I seek, my soul thirsts, my flesh longs – to see your power and your glory, my soul follows hard after you. Early and earnestly will I seek you, my tongue fails for thirst, I spread forth my hands to the Lord, my spirit fails, my soul desires you in the night. THIS KIND OF HUNGER WILL BRING RESULTS!

Water of life:

DSCF2243Isaiah 55:1-3, 6-8 – Ho, every one that thirsts, come to the waters and he that has no money; come buy and eat; yea, come buy wine and milk without money and without price.  Wherefore do you spend money for that which is not bread and your labor for that which does not satisfy?  Hearken diligently unto me and eat that which is good and let your soul delight itself in fatness.  Incline your ear and come to me; hear and your soul shall live… Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return unto the Lord and He will have mercy upon Him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

Revelations 22:1, 17 – Then He showed me the river whose waters give life, sparkling like crystal, flowing out from the throne of God and of the Lamb… And the Spirit and the bride say, come.  And he that hears let him say, come.  And he that is thirsty, let him come: he that will, let him take the water of life freely.

John 7:37-38 – If any man thirst, let him come to me and drink.  He that believes on me as the scripture has said, for within him shall flow rivers of living water.  But this He spoke of the Spirit which they that believed on Him should receive…

John 4:14 – Whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.

Come to Him and partake of the water of life. Partake of the water of life freely. The water of life is pure and clear as crystal and comes from the Throne of God. It will come by His Spirit through your spirit until He fills your entire life until you overflow to all those around you. It will become a river continually flowing out of you.

God WILL Fill You:

Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled.

Psalm 107:4-9 – They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way; they found no city of habitation.  Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.  Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses, He led them also by a straight way, that they might go to a city of habitation.  Oh that men would praise the Lord for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!  For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good.

Psalm 36:7-9 – How precious is your mercy, O God!  And the children of men take refuge under the shadow of your wings.  They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of your house; and you will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.  For with you is the fountain of life: in you light shall we see light.

Come to Him:

John 5:39-40 – You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and there are they which bear witness of me; and you will not come to me, that you may have life.

Matthew 11:28-30Come to me all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest for your soul.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

John 7:37-39 – If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink…

Jeremiah 2:12-13 – Be astonished and appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked and shrivel up with horror, says the Lord [at the behavior of the people]. For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and they have hewn for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns which cannot hold water.

The river of life that you seek, the waters that will fulfill your thirst will come from no other source than God Himself. There are other waters, but none other will fill you and fulfill you completely.

  1. This was extremely helpful , thank you very much.
I was seeking in hunger and thirst unto the Lord, and these are the scriptures I needed.

  2. Been going through a wilderness of sorts and suffering and guess God has broken me here so my soul and flesh may yearn only for Him. The scripture of Ps. 63:1-3 has so specifically ministered to me amid all the others. Thank you so much!
